Areas of Expertise

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is fundamentally concerned with the meanings which people make of their experiences. The insight of the CBT model is that it is not events that bother us. Instead it is the way that we interpret events – the meaning that we give to them – that gives rise to our feelings.

  • What you think and do affects the way you feel.

  • We can understand problems by examining our thoughts, emotions, physiology, and behaviour in specific situations.

  • Our best efforts to cope with our feelings often result in unintended consequences that prevent us from feeling better.

Mindfulness and Compassion focus Therapy

What Is Mindfulness? is an information sheet describing the key principles of the practice of mindfulness meditation practice (‘mindfulness’). Mindfulness meditation is a practice that psychologists have borrowed from the Buddhist tradition. Mindfulness exercises can help people to experience themselves differently, and to experience a different relationship to their thoughts.  Mindfulness has been demonstrated to help a wide variety of conditions including feeling-states such as anxiety and depression, and physical conditions such as chronic pain or illness. Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) is a relatively new psychotherapy approach which was originally developed to work with shame and self-loathing (self-criticism).

Interpersonal Psychotherapy

Also referred to as IPT therapy, interpersonal therapy is a structured, time-limited therapy that typically works intensely on established interpersonal issues. The underlying belief of interpersonal therapy is that psychological symptoms (such as depression) are often a response to difficulties we have interacting with others. The resulting symptoms can then also affect the quality of these interactions, causing a cycle. The thought process behind the therapy is that once a person is capable of interacting more effectively with those around them, the psychological symptoms can improve.

Our Approach

Sanders and partners provide highly skilled, experienced, and compassionate therapists who will work with you to achieve your goals. We have worked as therapists for more than 15 years. My colleagues  and I bring a similar but varied work and life experience into helping people make meaningful change. We use many approaches within our therapy using traditional Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, acceptance and values based work, mindfulness and compassion and emotion focused therapy. This, I feel, gives the person a rich and more emotional resonance in the therapeutic process.

We will work together to build goals in line with your values  to ensure that you get the most out of your therapy sessions.

We are aware that choosing a therapist that is right for you is an important process. We all work collaboratively so you feel understood and supported. We are all highly empathic and emotion focused so everything is viewed through a compassionate and holistic lens. This, I hope, will give you the confidence to express sometimes difficult and sensitive information.

Being accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapists is your guarantee that we maintain a high level of professionalism and clinical practice in accordance with Government guidelines for clinical excellence.
